SA Basset Adoptions rescue and rehome basset hounds across South Africa.  The bassets that we take in, has either been surrendered due to financial difficulties, people immigrating, stray bassets, or abused bassets.  Our organisation are widely known now, and we also receive requests from other shelters to assist in some instances.

We have a network of foster parents around the country who take care of bassets that we take in, whilst we actively network the dogs to find them forever homes.  When we do not have open foster homes, we have an arrangement with boarding kennels who provide us with shelter until we find a suitable place for the dogs, at an agreed rate.

SA Basset Adoptions remain liable for all medical costs in respect of the dogs we take in, which include sterilisation, vaccinations, deworming and micro chipping.  We often take in abused dogs, who might require additional medical attention.  There are also some common ailments in bassets like cherry eye, dentals and ear infection, which require further intervention like surgery or medication.
