WHO ARE WE?

LEAPS (established 2008) is a registered, non-profit, animal welfare organisation dedicated to helping animals in need in the areas of Elands Bay, Lamberts Bay and Vredenburg up the West Coast.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Our goal is to help animals in need. We do this in the following ways:

1. Rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted and/or homeless animals

We are a foster-based organisation and have no shelter. That means we need volunteers to care for any unwanted animals while we find a suitable home for them. Before placing animals in foster care, we ensure the animal has received any vet care they may need (incl. vaccinations and sterilization) and the foster family has been screened accordingly. Once a potential new home has completed the adoption process, the animal moves on to his/her forever home and family.

2. Educate township pet owners to better care for their pets and assist with the medical needs of the township animals.

Education is key to ensure the wellbeing of township animals. We provide this education as well as medical assistance, particularly with regard to mass sterilisations, vaccinations, feeding programmes and providing shelter to thousands of animals.

WHAT HAVE WE ACCOMPLISHED SO FAR?

To date, we have spayed over 3500 animals, as well as assisting other surrounding towns with medical assistance and manpower for spayathons in their areas. We have also been involved in education programmes for school children aimed at better caring for their pets. We are making a difference.

Through keeping animals healthy, the humans living in these areas do not get sick from animal related illnesses such as worms and mange.
